MSNBC blogger credits GOP's roaring success in Florida to 'gerrymandering,' and who wants to tell him?

Marco Rubio and Ron DeSantis have essentially got Florida in the bag. A big, red bag.

Naturally, MSNBC is having a very difficult time with this. Their live blog is a veritable bounty of cope.

Here’s an offering from Ja’Han Jones, who you may know as a blogger at MSNBC’s The ReidOut blog:

It’s all about the gerrymandering. Obviously.

They waited until after it was clear that this was a runaway race for Marco Rubio and Ron DeSantis.

Slow down, Doc. MSNBC still has to figure out what gerrymandering is.

One doesn’t.

That’s a fair point. If you read Jones’ write-up, he indeed names a couple of House races:

Steve Kornacki just reported a slate of projected GOPers flipping seats in Florida in districts where Republicans — namely, Gov. Ron DeSantis — gerrymandered the voter maps to shore up conservatives’ control of the state. Specifically, he highlighted GOP challenger Anna Paulina Luna in the 13th District and Laurel Lee in the 15th District, both winners in districts deliberately drawn to favor Republicans and heighten the party’s chances of retaking the House.

Where Jones’ argument really falls apart is when he subsequently says that we need to put Florida’s GOP victories in the “valuable context” of gerrymandering. Gerrymandering didn’t flip Miami-Dade County from blue to red. Gerrymandering didn’t hand Ron DeSantis and Marco Rubio their respective victories. The GOP is winning in Florida because the Democrats are an abject disaster with an impressive record of doing the exact opposite of the smart and sane thing.

So yeah, we can still dunk on him.

Give them time. The struggle is real.
