Ryan Lochte's mom talks about son's sex life, Dr. Ruth is not impressed; Update: Ike Lochte clarifies comments

Yes, you read that correctly. On “Today,” Ike Lochte told us little more than we needed to know about her swimmer son. And by “a little,” we mean “a lot”:

Ike Lochte is a strong — and emotional — supporter of her son’s competitive lifestyle, but she says Ryan is too busy to commit to a girlfriend.

“He goes out on one-night stands,” she told TODAY.com. “He’s not able to give fully to a relationship because he’s always on the go.”

Mrs. Lochte knows that the ladies go weak for Ryan’s soulful gaze:

And that’s just fine with Ryan:

“My last Olympics, I had a girlfriend — big mistake,” Lochte says. “Now I’m single, so London should be really good. I’m excited.”

Ew. Please. Make it stop.

Dr. Ruth Westheimer, certainly no shrinking violet when it comes to matters of sex, was pretty weirded-out by Mrs. Lochte’s revelation:

We’re inclined to agree. She continued:

Oh, snap.

Most everyone voiced their agreement with the sexpert:

Of course, there were a few people who weren’t fazed by the massive dose of TMI:

Um, no.

We get that there’s no such thing as a universal parenting style, but come on. When push comes to shove, a mom needs to be a mom; not a wingman.

Update:

It seems that for Ike Lochte, “one-night stand” does not mean what she thinks it means:

“How innocent is that?” Ike said. “All I wanted to say is that he’s so sensitive about not wanting to hurt a girl dating, so he just goes and dates and takes out a girl for maybe one or two dates and doesn’t have a relationship because he doesn’t have (time) and it’s not fair to the women.

“I thought that was so sensitive, but then they turned it around. I’m not used to this. … What kind of mom is going to say that (about her son having one-night stands)? Especially being a mom and having two daughters.”

“I knew how the media was going to take it, and I knew what my mom really meant,” Ryan said. “She’s new to the whole media (experience), so she didn’t really understand that they were going to twist it and make it bad.

It’s entirely possible that Mrs. Lochte, who is Cuban, just had an unfortunate encounter with the language barrier. We’re willing to give her the benefit of the doubt. Given that her son is an admitted player, though, the public’s original interpretation of her comments likely still stands. Oh well.
