Democratic Rep. Joe Crowley lost his primary to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, so he’s evidently looking for ways to go out with a bang. This might fit the bill:


“The damage that has been done to these children will be lifelong. To these family units will be lifelong as well. And in fact, I suggest that they need to be compensated for what this administration did to them. And the first form of compensation needs to be the reunification of these families.”

Crowley didn’t explicitly call for financial compensation, at least not in the clip above, but it’s not unreasonable to assume that that’s what he’s got in mind (in addition to reunification). In any event, the notion of compensating people who broke the law is maybe not the best approach to dealing with the border crisis.

All the Democrats have to do is not be insane. And they just. Can’t. Do it.
