Ellen DeGeneresβ birthday tribute to Katy Perry is getting quite a bit of attention:
Happy birthday, @KatyPerry! Itβs time to bring out the big balloons! pic.twitter.com/w84DMphK3V
β Ellen DeGeneres (@TheEllenShow) October 25, 2017
Itβs pretty clear that Ellen was just trying to be funny. But given the continued fallout from the Weinstein scandal and the increased focus on sexual harassment and sexual assault, should she have thought twice about that tweet? And is it indicative of a double standard?
Just my opinion, but this isn't funny. @TheEllenShow https://t.co/0qbxcVAOqI
β Janice Dean (@JaniceDean) October 25, 2017
Not appropriate, regardless of gender. I'd be offended if this tweet was about me on my birthday.
β Janet (@janetcwalsh1) October 25, 2017
Not funny. This is not appropriate especially in light of Hollywoods treatment of women. Come on Ellen, you should know better.
β Kelly Curran (@KellyKCA) October 25, 2017
Uncool, Ellen.
β Preston Hagee (@PrestonHagee) October 25, 2017
I have lost respect for Ellen after seeing this. What a terrible example to set for so many young girls who look up to Ellen. Sad.
β H. Rosenthal (@HRosenthal10) October 25, 2017
Tasteless. Tasteless. Tasteless.
β Erik Kunzelman (@ErikEKunzelman) October 25, 2017
WTF? Ellen Weinstein? @TheEllenShow totally unacceptable.
β Erik Kunzelman (@ErikEKunzelman) October 25, 2017
Harvey Weinstein: "Happy birthday @katyperry! It's time to bring out the big balloons."
β¦oh wait that would be wrong too.
β CE_Albanese (@CE_Albanese) October 25, 2017
Seriously Ellen? No.
β Cathy (@brookbend11) October 25, 2017
This is sexual assault you need to apologize https://t.co/hovOeXaZaS
β baemy ? (@politicsofamy) October 25, 2017
That is sexual harassment! What if a man says that?
β Buck (@Outlaw2309) October 25, 2017
WTF?! If ANY GUY did that..SMH
β Gio Castellano (@Gio_Castellano) October 25, 2017
how can this be acceptable ? #doublestandards #Hollywood
β Marc Nucci (@nuccim) October 25, 2017
So a woman can sexualize another woman & itβs okay? If a man did this it would be seen as horrible & demeaning. Youβve set a great example ?
β -meridian- (@primemeridian_) October 25, 2017
This tweet would cost Bill O'Reilly another $32 Million. But, girls can do anything anyway.
β Yogi Patel (@TheYogiPatel) October 25, 2017
How is this acceptable with everything going on in Hollywood. If it was a man he would be blasted. Oh, thatβs right she is lesbian. #unreal
β Jeremy Rist (@jMOTOrist) October 25, 2017
Double standard much?
β LMaC (@LMac_1326) October 25, 2017

β The ?????? (@562alexd) October 25, 2017

β Tony Harris (@jtharris83) October 25, 2017
Gross. After all the crap you've spewed about how some men treat women??
Double standard much?β Sandy Lane (@Sandys_lane) October 25, 2017
Nice double standard here.
β Joe Sciberras (@FIGJAM83) October 25, 2017
And bigger double standards! https://t.co/0fVJtTiBqL
β Anthony Bialy (@AnthonyBialy) October 25, 2017
#hollywood at it's finest. #doubleStandards are so obvious here. If it were a man, especially a #Rep man. This pic would put him in timeout
β Rebel Alliance (@TheRebelUSA) October 25, 2017
So wait, it's OK for lesbians to treat women this way? Is that how it works now? Please someone update the rule book. https://t.co/efvae1jSvy
β Matt Walsh (@MattWalshBlog) October 25, 2017
For Ellen's next trick, she'll explain to us all how objectifying women is a bad thing.
β The Dude (@Oaf8675309) October 25, 2017
What do you think?
