Marc Elias is once again pretending he's not Democracy Docket while trying to rewrite election history.
Again.
He's insisting mail-in voting wasn’t some Democrat invention — that voters demanded it, Republicans loved it for years, and Donald Trump just made up all the problems starting in 2020.
Cute story.
Too bad it doesn’t hold up once you stop and think about it for five seconds.
Mail-in voting was not a scheme created by Democrats, Marc Elias says. It was something that voters demanded.

And for a long time, Republicans used it to their advantage.

... and those lies about mail-in voting continue to this day.”
If Elias is for it, you know it's bad for this country.
Sure, absentee ballots have existed forever for people who actually needed them - military overseas, the elderly, the sick. Republicans supported those targeted, secure options.
What Democrats rammed through in 2020 was something completely different: mass unsolicited ballots mailed to every name on the rolls (including outdated ones), drop boxes with zero chain of custody in many places, relaxed signature checks, and extended deadlines. That wasn’t 'voters demanding convenience.' That was a power grab dressed up as public health.
Elias knows this better than most. He’s spent years in courtrooms fighting basic safeguards like voter ID and clean voter rolls. Now his outlet wants us to believe the only reason anyone questions unsecured mail ballots is because Trump hurt their feelings in 2020. Give me a break. Plenty of us were raising red flags about fraud risks long before that - and real cases keep popping up in audits and prosecutions across the country.
The truth is simple: when you make voting as easy as dropping a piece of paper in a box with almost no verification, you invite problems. Democrats love to scream “democracy” while opposing the very things that make elections trustworthy — ID requirements, same-day voting, strict deadlines. They’ll defend anything that tilts the field their way and call every concern a 'lie.'
