Jesse Kelly let LOOSE on anyone (including the GOP) turning a blind eye to illegal immigration and national sovereignty in a fairly brutal yet spot-on thread:
For a half century, the GOP sided with the American Left and turned a blind eye to illegal immigration and national sovereignty. Trump can't change the 14th Amendment, but please don't act STUNNED when voters don't want to now hear "BUT THE CONSTITUTION!".
— Jesse Kelly (@JesseKellyDC) October 30, 2018
Absolutely fair point.
Some of us have always advocated for protecting our border AND the Constitution. If you've only ever advocated for one of those and not the other, you're on some shaky ground now.
— Jesse Kelly (@JesseKellyDC) October 30, 2018
"Trump can't change the 14th Amendment! The rule of law matters!"
and
"Just let the 30 million illegal immigrants stay here. Stop being so draconian." -Same person

‘The Second Amendment doesn’t protect all guns, it’s the interpretation!’
‘The 14th Amendment must be adhered to literally!’
Also the same person.
The truth is, far too many on the Right only advocate for "Clean Hands Conservatism". They advocate for the rule of law and the Constitution RIGHT up to the point they have to get their hands dirty or look like a big meanie to The New York Times.

Clean Hands Conservatism.
So stealing … err … borrowing that.
Then they fold like a deck of cards. They hem and haw and say things like, "Well, I can be reasonable. What are we going to do? Put a huge wall on our border?! Ugh. That just seems so icky. And we can't just kick people out. Yuck!"

Looking at you, Jeff Flake.
I'm not some legal expert and I've seen a thousand different takes on the 14th. I just know that if you're on the Right and you regularly whimper for approval from the anti-Constitution Left, your 14th Amendment opinion isn't worth the cost of resoling your crocs. That's all.
— Jesse Kelly (@JesseKellyDC) October 30, 2018
Oof, the crocs dig might have been a bridge too far.
Or not.
Is he violating 14A though? I think there's a real argument to be made here that "subject to the jurisdiction thereof" (in 14A, meaning parents who owe no allegiance to a foreign power) excludes those born to illegal aliens on US soil.

He doesn't need to change it. Giving citizenship to those in our country in violation of our laws (AKA NOT under our jurisdiction) has no basis in law. pic.twitter.com/PjhjalQOZn

We don’t pretend to know the answer here, but the arguments are definitely interesting.
Ummm Trump can’t change the 14th Amendment but he can apply it in the way it was intended. Stated below: pic.twitter.com/49sxtUhrWt

It’s moments like this one where we’re glad to write about political Twitter and not be responsible for making any legal call or judgments.
True story.
