I wasn't the least bit surprised by this news. As a Floridian mother of a 24-year-old white man with a tight-knit group of friends, I've witnessed firsthand their unwavering support for President Trump and Governor DeSantis. While some folks my age were reluctant to don their red hats or display Trump flags due to fear of backlash, these young men boldly proclaimed their allegiance. They proudly flew Trump flags from their boat during weekend outings, sported their MAGA hats without hesitation, and even made it a point to attend Trump rallies. For them, there was no reason to keep their support under wraps.

My son held firm convictions when it came to dating, refusing to consider any woman who didn’t share his conservative values. For him, it was non-negotiable: she had to be a Christian first and a conservative second. His faith and political principles were that deeply rooted, and his friends echoed the same sentiment. I’ll never forget how disheartened they all were when Biden was declared President in 2020. Seeing their spirits sink, I encouraged them to stay resilient and keep fighting for what they believed in. Honestly, I had my doubts about a Republican victory in 2024, but their unwavering determination proved me wrong. They poured their energy into making sure we wouldn’t face another four years of ruinous Democratic leadership.

Democrats urged our sons to despise themselves, but we, as their parents, countered that nonsense and encouraged them to vote instead. We told them to support candidates who believed in the worth of ALL Americans, no matter their gender, creed, sex, race or religion. They found those candidates in the Republican party.

I believe introducing them to conservative values proved appealing. Their support for the GOP isn’t solely an angry backlash; these young men are also intelligent Americans who simply want a bright future.
