White House Deputy Press Secretary Eric Schultz seems pretty eager for you to read Congressman Elijah Cummings’ (D-MD) obfuscatory statement claiming there’s no evidence the White House was involved with the IRS targeting scandal. That’s a pretty weak play given that it looks more and more like the IRS was destroying evidence.

Cummings always seems to be on the verge of panicking during the hearings on the IRS scandal. We already know he colluded with Lois Lerner to target True the Vote, and other Democrats have “encouraged” extra scrutiny of opponents. The adamancy with which Cummings is trying to protect the White House from being implicated makes it easy to think that Cummings doth protest too much.
