George Zimmerman waives right to pretrial 'stand your ground' immunity hearing

George Zimmerman’s second-degree murder trial is scheduled to begin on June 10. At a Tuesday hearing, he waived his right to a pretrial “stand your ground” hearing. According to the Orlando Sentinel, “That’s a proceeding that could absolve him of criminal wrongdoing for killing Trayvon Martin, an unarmed black 17-year-old.”

The Orlando Sentinel reports that Zimmerman’s defense attorney said “the issue could still resurface at trial.”
