According to his (unverified) Twitter account, Nike ultra endurance athlete Jason Lester is more than halfway through a 24-hour treadmill run to raise awareness and funds to benefit a Hawaiian couple diagnosed with cancer.
On Friday, March 29th, I will be playing a very small part in helping to bring awareness and financial support for the Opiopio family. At 6:00 p.m., I will begin a Treadmill run lasting 24 hours (6:00 p.m., March 29th until 6:00 p.m., March 30th) to benefit a strong, lovely family of five at Big Island Honda Kona.
One cancer diagnosis in a family can be difficult and scary, but to have two diagnoses within the same month is the challenging reality that the Opiopio family is currently facing. Kaleo Opiopio was diagnosed with stage IV (4) colon cancer, which has metastasized into his liver, and his wife, Wendy, was diagnosed with breast cancer. Kaleo and Wendy have three young, beautiful children.
On Saturday, March 30th from 12:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m., family and friends will be hosting a benefit event that will include entertainment, an auto show, and a silent auction. There will also be lucky number drawings, jumping castles and much, much more. ALL of the proceeds from this benefit will help alleviate some of the family’s financial burden associated with medical expenses. ALL donations will go directly to the family immediately, and all product donations will be used toward the lucky number drawings and the silent auction.
