Planned Parenthood slams Live Action for 'edited videotapes,' slimes Romney in deceptively edited ad; Update: NYT agrees

According to Planned Parenthood, there are few things more deplorable than video editing. (Okay, girl babies might be worse.) Today the group reveals its beef with video manipulation is a case of “Do as I say, not as I do.”

Just yesterday, Planned Parenthood expressed outrage that Live Action was promoting “an edited video” of a clinic employee encouraging a woman to seek a sex-selective abortion. The organization released a statement condemning opponents for “promoting an edited video of that hoax patient encounter.” One problem there:

The thrust of the response is similar to previous reactions about other Live Action videos — to call it edited and a hoax even though Live Action has released the full, unedited videos and transcripts.

Funny how that outrageous outrage about video manipulation goes out the window when Planned Parenthood wants to use clipped Mitt Romney sound bites to scare women into voting for Barack Obama.

Planned Parenthood Action Fund announced a $1.4 million ad buy today. The political smear job is called “Mitt Romney: Out of Touch and Harmful for Women’s Health.”

The ad begins:

When Mitt Romney says, “Planned Parenthood, we’re going to get rid of that,” Romney is saying he’ll deny women the birth control and cancer screenings they depend on.

Romney wants you to die of cancer, preferably while pregnant. And probably barefoot in the kitchen. War on Women!

Only, it seems there are some words amateurishly clipped from Romney’s remark to alter the intent of his statement. Here’s the context:

As for ways to reduce debt, he suggests a few cuts.

“The test is pretty simple. Is the program so critical, it’s worth borrowing money from china to pay for it? And on that basis of course you get rid of Obamacare, that’s the easy one. Planned Parenthood, we’re going to get rid of that. The subsidy for Amtrak, I’d eliminate that. The National Endowment for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Humanities,” he said.

Romney simply said he’d like to end government funding of Planned Parenthood.

But isn’t enough to convince women that Romney wants to end cancer screenings and ban birth control. So Planned Parenthood lies through omission of context because the organization is endorsing the guy who doesn’t want them punished with babies.

In other news, water is wet.

UPDATE:

Even the New York Times can’t spin this one for Planned Parenthood:
