The House of Representatives passed a $15 billion rescission package on Thursday night.
The goal of it is to eliminate a large amount of wasteful spending from what has been already allocated. Speaker Paul Ryan calls it the largest such package in history.

The package and vote were requested by President Trump.

Conservatives are hailing the passage of this measure as a win for cutting unnecessary spending and returning excess funds to the Treasury.

The vote was narrow with 19 Republicans opposing the bill.

Democrats, on the other hand, did not find the bill’s passage to be cause for celebration.
Democrats oppose the rescissions plan. They argue it unwinds parts of a big spending agreement from March which President Trump negotiated and signed but trashed publicly.
