The House of Representatives passed a $15 billion rescission package on Thursday night.
The goal of it is to eliminate a large amount of wasteful spending from what has been already allocated. Speaker Paul Ryan calls it the largest such package in history.

The package and vote were requested by President Trump.
House now voting on bill to cancel $15 billion in spending at Trump's request (rescissions bill). This is known as a “rescissions” bill, because it “rescinds” already allocated spending.

Conservatives are hailing the passage of this measure as a win for cutting unnecessary spending and returning excess funds to the Treasury.

The vote was narrow with 19 Republicans opposing the bill.

19 GOP nay votes. Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman Richard Shelby (R-AL) is skeptical of the plan.— Chad Pergram (@ChadPergram) June 8, 2018
Democrats, on the other hand, did not find the bill’s passage to be cause for celebration.
Democrats oppose the rescissions plan. They argue it unwinds parts of a big spending agreement from March which President Trump negotiated and signed but trashed publicly.

This is what the president preemptively tweeted about the vote on Tuesday.
The HISTORIC Rescissions Package we’ve proposed would cut $15,000,000,000 in Wasteful Spending! We are getting our government back on track.

We will probably be hearing from him again shortly regarding this vote.
