Cocaine Mitch vs. Taylor Swift is the fight we need right now

Taylor Swift called out the Trump administration during her acceptance speech at the Video Music Awards last night for not responding to her petition on Change.org asked the Senate to vote on the Equality Act:

Would it surprise you, however, to learn that she’s wrong and that the White House already responded to this legislation even before she published her petition? The Washington Blade reported back in May that the White House is opposed to the legislation:

“The Trump administration absolutely opposes discrimination of any kind and supports the equal treatment of all; however, this bill in its current form is filled with poison pills that threaten to undermine parental and conscience rights,” the senior administration official said via email.

From Sen. Chuck Schumer back then as well:

Anyway, here’s her speech:

What she really wants is for Mitch “Cocaine” McConnell to take up the legislation, which is a fight we’d LOVE to see:

From her petition:

While there’s no information yet as to when the Equality Act will go before the Senate for a vote, we do know this: Politicians need votes to stay in office. Votes come from the people. Pressure from massive amounts of people is a major way to push politicians towards positive change. That’s why I’ve created this petition to urge the Senate to support the Equality Act.

LOL.
