Remember when President Donald Trump called Chicago a “war zone“? We do.
But what’s happening in Chicago this weekend is even more horrific than what the president was talking about back in January:
Since midnight, police said 40 people have been shot, four fatally. Since Friday at 5 p.m., 57 people have been shot, six fatally, in shootings in Chicago. https://t.co/wJCGRzAowW

Why isn’t this the top story on EVERY network?
This should be the lead on every newscast with national media descending on Chicago for the full week. How this is relatively accepted as the new normal is just depressing… https://t.co/UTyVWz3r5X

At one point, 30 people were shot in just 3 hours early this morning:
REALLY CHICAGO?
Came into @WGNNews this morning, to learn 30 people were shot between midnight and 3A.
Two people are dead.
There were 4 mass shootings & 10 shooting locations.
Police say it was a night like nothing they've ever seen.
We're on @wgnnews at 7-9A with the latest.— Courtney Gousman (@cgousman) August 5, 2018
Yep:
This is America, and this is terrifying. Thirty people in 3 hours were shot in Chicago. We have hosts crying tears for the illegal immigrants entering our country, but not for our own kids? https://t.co/GxJSXvfZDq

Senator Dick Durbin wants Congress to act:
My heart breaks for those who are victimized and traumatized by the daily toll of gun violence. This is a public health crisis. Congress must act and can start by prioritizing additional resources to address this crisis. https://t.co/MaJRruGc3z

Which is nonsense. This is a local problem and other cities have been able to cut gun crime. Why can’t Chicago?
It's not the damn gun laws. They aren't any less strict in NY or LA and there's nowhere remotely near this level of carnage in those cities.
There are plenty of strategies and data out there on how to police large urban areas. This is a societal and governmental failure. https://t.co/Rz1kD5xGX9
