Big Brother meets Big Sanitation!
Mayor Rawlings-Blake was on hand to help distribute the new trash cans this morning:

The city will issue 170,000 of the chipped cans in total:

The Baltimore Sun reports “the cans will remain the city’s property and must be left at the residence when the property owner or renter moves out.” The city hopes the high-tech cans pay for themselves “with savings to the rat abatement program and from workers’ compensation claims.”
