Michigan has quickly become the No. 1 COVID-19 hotspot in the United States:
Michigan surpassed 700,000 cases of the coronavirus today as the state continues to lead the nation in new cases by population. https://t.co/fxfmUK3Jwk

And it’s not just cases. Hospitalizations are up, too:
Michigan has 7 of the 10 counties with the highest number of cases per resident, 6 of which are in the thumb. Hospitalizations up well over 600% since March 1 pic.twitter.com/wijv9FfIR4

So, when does “60 Minutes” fly to Michigan and report on Gov. Gretch Whitmer?
Looking forward to 60 Minutes’ piece this weekend about Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer.
(Seriously though, for the sake of Michigan’s residents, maybe the media should be helicoptering into Lansing?)https://t.co/oYtsn1pBMZ pic.twitter.com/Lp715rAwNl

And as we told you earlier, Dr. Fauci can’t really explain why Texas is doing so well right now while mask-happy Michigan is failing:
He can’t explain why mask happy Michigan is going crazy either. He just proved lockdowns don’t work by saying maybe it’s because they do more things outside. Guys a goof. Masks divide people that’s all they do.RT @AdamBaldwin: F-Fauci.

And it’s not only the weather. These graphs from PoliMath compare all the midwestern states and Michigan is clearly in bad shape:
I am so incredibly tired of COVID surges, I really would like to be done with this
Despite a 30% adult vaccination rate, Michigan saw a substantial surge last month. We hope it will break and trend down within the next few weekshttps://t.co/SP8TyjvIm7
— PoliMath (@politicalmath) April 6, 2021
And cases in Michigan are pretty concentrated, suggesting it’s not seasonality alone causing the surge:
Honestly, the bigger question is why Ohio isn't seeing a surge
The surge is fairly concentrated in the "thumb" of Michigan
The answer: I don't know. This is the most localized surge we've seen.
Seasonality-base surges typically hit a much wider region. pic.twitter.com/Dl3QO0EcfI

More here:
“In other words, as of Sunday, Texas has about one-fourth as many cases as Michigan even though it has zero restrictions—and 20 million more people.” @JonMiltimore https://t.co/oy7FFBRSS7
— Jack Hunter (@jackhunter74) April 6, 2021
One issue the surge in cases is having right now is that it’s also delaying vaccinations:
Rep. Stevens on rising Covid infections in Michigan: "I'm seeing case after case, this is just coming from my constituents, who are saying 'I was just about to get the vaccine and then I came down with Covid,' and that's stalling our progress."https://t.co/Bs3fOq7GcI

Get those shots, people:
Vaccination eligibility has expanded to all Michigan residents over the age of 16! Learn more with Kalamazoo County Health & Community Services and get registered to receive your first dose. Appointments are released on Mondays at 7am, 12pm and 5pm at https://t.co/ndl4jF7W9w
