In today’s New York Times, there’s an op-ed by Bari Weiss titled, “The Slut-Shaming of Nikki Haley”…
…But does the person who writes/edits the NYT’s headlines actually know what that phrase means (note: Ms. Weiss never uses the term in the op-ed)? Because using “slut-shaming” in this context means that Nikki Haley is being criticized for actually having an affair with President Donald Trump:
Attn NYT headline editor: "slut-shaming" would be criticizing Haley for her sexual exploits. Making up fake sexual exploits isn't slut-shaming; it's lying. @bariweiss https://t.co/f9YfsmafsS

Do better, NYT:
Genuinely terrible headline. It's not even the right term for what's happening. https://t.co/jguuUrfqhv

good piece w/revolting headline that actually spreads the smear that the author decries https://t.co/8qgqFcsPKR

It’s a pattern?
Elizabeth Warren did this same thing to Kirsten Gillibrand not long ago. How does no one know the proper way to use this term. https://t.co/NBz169jRz9

But do read the op-ed as it makes the point that Haley is being treated differently because she has an “R” after her name:
Imagine what the reaction would be to a rumor, peddled by a prominent writer, that Samantha Power was sleeping with President Obama. Heads would explode. But if the woman is Nikki Haley? Not so much. https://t.co/Xdju61Zd8q
