Matt Yglesias has deleted this hot take on Judge Aquilina and her harsh sentence of pervert Dr. Larry Nassar, with good reason, but as they say — SCREENSHOTS LAST FOREVER:
i'm here to report that we are on #RATIOWATCH pic.twitter.com/6MLabHCo8U

150+ victims just spoke out against this monster to talk about the abuse they suffered as CHILDREN, and Yglesias pulls this crap?
A convicted serial child molester with 150+ victims is a heck of a hill to die on, @mattyglesias pic.twitter.com/bKMpLNZXTH

“Those Nazis at the Nuremberg trials were clearly evil men. But I don’t care for the judicial grandstanding and dunking on the convict” – @mattyglesias

It's crucial for someone in the position of authority to stand up for these girls, for these girls to hear affirmed how devastating and wrong his actions were, to see him loudly and publicly condemned. The healing that can create cannot be underestimated.

Nuclear, indeed:

Also, what’s the big deal?
Honestly what the judge did isn't even that unusual. If you're a courtroom reporter, you witness such statements pretty regularly for heinous crimes.
— Gene Park (@GenePark) January 24, 2018
Also, what exactly was “grandstanding” about it?
don't worry, here's a screenshot of @mattyglesias arguing that a female judge showing palpable disgust to a child molester + allowing 156 victims to read testimony in court is "grandstanding" pic.twitter.com/t6zmYTneQ7

We should do more than “dunk” on Nassar, that’s for sure:
He destroyed the lives of hundreds of young women. He had it easy compared to the evil he inflicted on these innocent children.

That said, I said this morning that 175 years is too lenient, only half joking. But a judge wishing she could have handed down a tortue sentence is not only inappropriate, but seems to me (a non-lawyer) to possibly open the judge to having her sentence appealed for extreme bias.

After getting trashed, he did admit he’s “convinced,” whatever that means:
Okay, I’m convinced.
— Matthew Yglesias (@mattyglesias) January 24, 2018
Do better:
Instead of being "convinced" – take some time to understand what you said and provide a sincere apology if you can.
