Former New York Times journalist (soon to be with @ProPublica) and University of Missouri grad Madi Alexander posted a screenshot of an email reportedly from the university’s police force asking witnesses to “call the police immediately” so that they can investigate incidents of “hateful and/or hurtful speech” on campus.

And just to play devil’s advocate, there might be something else going on here, even though the email is still scary as heck. That line about posting to social media before calling the police is interesting. Could it be that the campus police are worried about hoax reports? We’re starting to see some questioning if the incidents that sparked the protests even happened in the first place, including the most salacious one involving a swastika drawn with “poop”:
