Ida B. Wells, journalist, suffragist and early civil-rights leader, is being honored for her birthday today with one of the now famous Google homepage “Doodles”:

Wells is also famous for saying “the Winchester rifle deserved a place of honor in every Black home” as a means of protecting blacks from lynch mobs. But a Winchester rifle didn’t make the doodle. What’s up with that, Google?
