'We are being hit with the high-grade marketing and no group is worse than white liberals. I mean, they are the worst,' McKay explained. 'I’ve tried to talk to them about climate, they are so smug and captured. And it boils down to privilege. I mean, when you talk to white moneyed liberals, they’re getting a lot from this broken system.'
Does this sound like a conversation you've had or wanted to? It's actually a quote from Adam McKay (Variety link), the very successful screenwriter, director and producer who can boast 'Anchorman', 'The Big Short' and 'Talladega Nights' among his hits.
Adam McKay says "no group is worse" for America and its politics than "white liberals":

But before we get all excited about McKay's 'red pill' moment, It's not what you think. If you peruse the 'Variety' article, you'll quickly see that he's attacking liberals from the left. That's right, the liberals are not liberal enough for McKay.
It makes sense when you think about it. 'The Big Short', as great as it was, was a preachy message movie about Wall Street Greed in the era of the junky mortgage era. His perpetual rage-boner for Fox News was the driving force behind 'Anchorman 2' and the thinly-veiled Murdoch drama 'Succession'. And let's not forget that he was behind that screedy, unfunny climate alarmist Netflix movie 'Don't Look Up'.
When I first read McKay, it was in the brand new 'Huffington Post', where famous liberals posted their dislike of anything outside their Hollywood bubble. The article, as I remember it, started out with an insincere, 'I have a sincere question for Republicans' then went on to post rhetorical tripe.
So yeah, McKay is a lefty through and through. Just in case you need more proof, he left the Democrats because they didn't go hard enough against Trump.
McKay was previously an outspoken Democrat, but after Donald Trump secured his second presidency in November 2024, he announced on social media that he was leaving the Democratic Party. He wrote on X at the time, “It is time to abandon the Dem Party. I’m registering Green Party or Working Families. But am open to ideas.”
Hilariously, he found a lot of agreement from the 'wrong' people.

He's right though.

Smug white liberals are the main source of all problems in the western world.
Emphasis on the 'smug'.
He’s criticizing white liberals from an even whiter, more pretentious, socialist viewpoint.

It's true, but Adam McKay saying it is like seeing George Carlin talk about how obnoxious atheists are

Funny, for someone who writes comedy, he does seem to lack a sense of irony.
You’re describing Adam McKay

Just wait until Adam McKay learns about Adam McKay.

I'll add that his movies are often very funny as well.
