Responding to Elon Musk’s poll about allowing President Trump back on Twitter, philosopher-neuroscientist-author-podcast guy, Sam Harris, said the controversial former Commander-In-Chief should not be allowed back on the platform. If he was allowed to return, however, Harris would like Twitter’s Terms of Service (TOS) to disallow the ‘deliberate spreading of dangerous lies’, which would, in Harris’s estimation, get Trump canned again within a week.
Twitter identified the immediate problem which Sam Harris seemed to miss: We’re inundated by the deliberate spreading of dangerous lies every day on Twitter.
If you do bring him back (you shouldn’t), please have a TOS that covers the deliberate spreading of dangerous lies. And then apply it. He will be off again within a week. https://t.co/OvQf95X70T

It seems Sam might be more bothered by the source of what he deems ‘lies’ than the lies themselves. Obviously, he’s referring to Trump’s claims that the 2020 election was stolen. Opinions of that claim vary widely, even among conservative circles. What is undeniable is that questioning whether an election is legitimate was not considered dangerous at all as recently as 2016.
It’s okay when they say it, you see, because they’re the good guys.
You, on the other hand, are a ‘dangerous Nazi, fascist, traitor’. (We wonder if Sam is concerned about spreading those dangerous lies?)
Are you going to hold the CDC and the entire public health system to these same standards?
— 𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐠 🏳️🌈 (@CasuallyGreg) November 19, 2022
It appears our CDC was less-than-truthful with us during the COVID-19 pandemic (for our own good, of course).
At least, many people believe that to be the case. That’s the real problem, isn’t it? Who gets to decide which claims are ‘dangerous lies’? Sam Harris? Elon Musk? Twitchy?
We humbly accept our new role as Arbiter of Truth. LOL.
Who will determine what is a lie or is truthful?
You?
Me?
Elon?Do you want same standard applied to your access to social media? Should you be kicked off if someone believes your posts are not entirely truthful?

Bingo.
Let people speak. Evidence and time have a tendency to expose lies. Lock a lie in a prison of censorship, and you’ll see it spread and grow faster than Barron Trump.

Remember the Hunter Biden laptop story which may have swayed public opinion in the 2020 election but was buried by the very same Twitter that Harris is criticizing now?
It may be that the Twitter lie detectors just weren’t very good at their jobs. Much more likely is that they were actively helping the guy whose politics they prefer.
Restrictive TOS worked real well there, Sam. The dangerous lie spread in 2020 was that there was ‘no there, there’.
Always interesting to see takes from people wholly incapable of rationality when it comes to Trump
— Clifton Duncan. (@cliftonaduncan) November 19, 2022
There’s also that. Sam Harris is okay with different rules for Trump … because Trump.
Did you want to mention the lie in this tweet, or are you ok with it? https://t.co/VMJYzG6TlB
— Kelkat (@Tweetytweeter63) November 19, 2022
Uh oh. The dangerous lies are stacking up. The riots resulting from this lie were justified, apparently.
Exactly. We can't have a president who spreads misinformation… pic.twitter.com/YqSVJ4SLhy

Was it a “dangerous lie” for the press, the CDC & the entire democrat party to tell Americans that the Covid 19 vaccine stopped any and all transmission of the Covid 19 virus? https://t.co/IURoGeL5dc
— NevilleTheCat (@FearTheFloof) November 19, 2022
Yeah, we already did COVID, but remember the vaccine mandates were largely based on the idea that they were necessary to stop the spread. The implication was the vaccinated would not be spreading the virus. That turned out to be wildly wrong long before vaccine mandates were curtailed.
As would virtually every other politician in the world and every mainstream corporate news outlet.
— Matt Orfalea (@0rf) November 19, 2022
Exactly. Was it a dangerous lie for President Biden to spread the idea that American citizens were ‘semi-fascists’ and dangerous MAGA radicals?
If we’re doing this ‘dangerous lies’ thing, then you have to assume Biden’s rhetoric may have contributed to 18-year-old Cayler Ellingson being murdered in September by a man who thought he was a right wing extremist.
— Ultimate Dad Bod Champ (@NerdySmurph) November 19, 2022
LOL.
What, dangerous lies like saying SCOTUS is illegitimate and then some loon shows up on Kavanaugh's lawn with a gun? https://t.co/tAkz87HaGf
— Desantismander (@desantismander) November 19, 2022
Your Twitter TOS vision isn’t going so well, Sam.
Sam,
1. What’s an example of a dangerous lie?
2. Who decides what’s true?
3. Why is censoring a liar preferable to refuting him?
4. Can you think of any “lies” that turned out to be true?
5. Do Democrats ever lie, and should any who have be suspended? https://t.co/7WDG7pmTzM
— Seth Dillon (@SethDillon) November 19, 2022
Good questions, guy whose satire site was banned from Twitter for spreading a dangerous truth. Pretty sure we addressed them all above.
This filter is bad idea. It’ll ban all news outlets and most Leftists like yourself. https://t.co/S5PhbKULxM
— Dr Strangetweet or How I Learned to Love the RT (@lone_rides) November 19, 2022
Hmmm … you have our attention, sir. LOL.
.@SamHarrisOrg is absolutely right. It is irresponsible for @elonmusk to continue to provide a platform to dishonest outlets such as the @nytimes, @washingtonpost, etc. https://t.co/V4yLaDoADj
— Michael Knowles (@michaeljknowles) November 19, 2022
Sam’s still going. People aren’t buying it.
I’m shocked that someone even halfway intelligent can’t understand that the job of adjudicating what counts as “dangerous lies” is far too much power to give to anyone. https://t.co/3knLusgsu2
— David Reaboi, Late Republic Nonsense (@davereaboi) November 19, 2022
Yeah, let’s not try that again.
