A Courier Journal opinion piece declared that Holocaust Remembrance Day is a time to remember other stuff than the Holocaust.
No, it’s really, quite literally, not.
According to the UN Resolution establishing January 27 as International Holocaust Remembrance Day:
‘ … the Holocaust, which resulted in the murder of one third of the Jewish people, along with countless members of other minorities, will forever be a warning to all people of the dangers of hatred, bigotry, racism and prejudice … Resolves that the United Nations will designate 27 January as an annual International Day of Commemoration in memory of the victims of the Holocaust … ‘

Clearly, the point of remembering is to honor those who were murdered and to prevent such a horrific event from ever happening again, but the day is reserved to remember a unique historical event.

Take a gander at that pull quote. Nobody has ever claimed Jews have a monopoly on persecution and atrocities. Jews have never claimed that violence towards them is more important than violence against others.
It is undeniable, however, that Jews do have a unique history as targets of hate and violence.
These first couple sentences are virtually indistinguishable from some of the swill you might see surface from the gutters where actual neo-Nazis live.

Even Nancy didn’t go so far as to imply the Jews ‘claim that the hate and violence towards them is more important than another’s’.
The Courier Journal made sure to use their Holocaust Remembrance Day dumpster fire of an article to add a ‘Republicans are Nazis’ swipe as well:
‘Hitler was just one of many dictators. The list of tyrants, past and present, continues with the addition of names from around the globe today. These autocrats masquerade as religious leaders or elected officials, grandstanding with worthless “facts” and “solutions” to non-existent problems, like teaching about race in schools and banning books.’

I don't care how Jewish you are, writing something like "what's so special about the Holocaust?" is going to make me wonder whether or not you actually believe the historical truth of it or maybe this is your way of "just asking questions."
