Failed Democrat candidate for State Representative, Piper for Missouri (Jessica Piper), launched a Twitter attack on school choice activist, Corey DeAngelis. As is often the case from those who oppose school choice, Piper was heavy on accusations and light on substance.
Disclaimer: This editor sends his children to a private school where the majority of the students are funded through the state’s school choice voucher system. Our children do not qualify for the voucher. Most students in this rural community would not be able to afford this option without the voucher program. The program funds up to $7,500 per child, while the state’s public school students receive over $13,000 in funding per student.
Corey DeAngelis is a paid actor for the “school choice” scam. He’s a highly paid grifter who travels the country in an effort to privatize public schools. He’s in line with Betsy DeVos. They are working toward the same goal. Treat him as such.
— Piper for Missouri (@piper4missouri) December 30, 2022
Piper for Missouri started what turned into a days-long screed by calling DeAngelis a ‘paid actor’. Corey DeAngelis has a PhD in education policy and is no more a ‘paid actor’ than any other individual whose life’s work focuses on advocating for policy they believe in.
She goes on to call him a ‘highly paid grifter’, implying DeAngelis is just in it for the money. We would note that Piper makes these charges as a career public school teacher who advocates for sending more taxpayer dollars to public schools.
Note that Piper did not offer some grand refute of DeAngelis’s school choice positions. Instead, she invited Missourians to plug their ears and not listen to him.
As tends to happen on Twitter, Piper got the attention she ordered.
The comments to this tweet expose the “school choice” movement. These aren’t parents just looking for the best for their kids—these are rabid right wing nuts who hate teachers and schools. They blindly follow folks like DeAngelis who hates the same folks they hate. Bootlickers.

It’s tempting to be infuriated at the ignorance and inability to argue her position, but we have to laugh.
According to Piper for Missouri, these are just ‘rabid right wing nuts who hate teachers and schools’. Just … wow. At least try to offer an argument. LOL.
This is a typical Twitter story arc:
- Liberal goes scorched earth on some person.
- Twitter calls them out.
- Liberal accuses opposition of being hateful, fascists, and all other manner of evil.
- Liberal is now the victim.
Let’s watch it play out, shall we?
Public schools are the scam, taking ever increasing money from us and providing less and less in return.
School choice is the future.
— Sir Aaron (@SirAaron_) December 30, 2022
Here comes the loyal opposition.
I don’t understand why anyone would be against parents having a choice as to what school is best for their child?
Can someone explain the resistance to giving parents and students options in education?— I Pray for Justice(HIFT) (@KoreyEdwards6) December 30, 2022
Allow us to help, sir. Money. It’s all about the money.
Public school unions, administrators, and teachers believe that education tax dollars are allocated to them, not to students.
This is the ‘opposition calls out the liberal’ phase of our story, if you’re keeping track.
You're being too modest. Corey does a good job but teachers' unions and their Democrat boosters have done 90% of the school-choicers' work for them. You've alienated parents and taxpayers. https://t.co/6tIAfEhLZQ
— Winter Man (@_winter_man_) December 30, 2022
Spot on.
If only we all could be well paid to fight for the principles we cherish like @DeAngelisCorey . Democrats however pay teachers with YOUR money to enforce their ideology. https://t.co/N4HCwIyJkH
— 🥷🦅AP4Liberty 🇺🇲🥋 (@AP4Liberty) December 30, 2022
It’s starting to look like a lot of people agree with DeAngelis more than Piper.
You could at least tag @DeAngelisCorey if you’re going to libel and smear him. https://t.co/dpnBcNCUcE
— The🐰FOO (@PolitiBunny) December 30, 2022
Ah, that’s better! Foo makes a good referee. LOL.
The scam is milking the American taxpayer, demanding more and more money despite little to nothing to show for it other than illiterate graduates and eternally-funded pensions. https://t.co/l43o3dGUBh
— Anna James Zeigler (@ajzeigler) December 30, 2022
Straight talk from Anna. We love Anna.
It’s really funny that one of the biggest proponents of defunding public schools in favor of corporate schools is scared of me…a rural woman with no financial backing from anyone. I just want my kids to get an education at our local school.
Corey DeAngelis is a fraud.
— Piper for Missouri (@piper4missouri) December 30, 2022
His entire feed this morning is dedicated to me…I’ve never been one to keep quiet in the face of fascism much less a dude acting like a coastal elite and his bootlicking minions. ☺️
— Piper for Missouri (@piper4missouri) December 30, 2022
And, just like that, we’ve moved into the ad hominem ‘my opponents are fascists’ phase.
She’s already winking at the ‘victim’ phase because she’s just a ‘rural woman’. No, rural women are tough as nails. That’s not gonna fly. Sorry, Piper, you threw your hat in the ring, slandered your opponents, and ran for statewide office on these issues. You don’t get to play innocent bystander now that people are taking apart your bad tweets. LOL.
DeAngelis did feature replies to Piper for Missouri in his own Twitter timeline. Why wouldn’t he? This is a very typical approach of the anti-school choice crowd. Piper is doing a service by providing DeAngelis fuel to demonstrate the lack of depth of her arguments.
Literally no one is scared of you. Lots of people, however, are bewildered at the fact that you’re so adamant about defending a broken and fraudulent system that benefits government at the expense of students and society. Maybe you should reflect on that.
— Jeremy Knauff (@jeremyknauff) December 30, 2022
She is on the side that benefits from it.
So she supports it because it makes her money.
Meanwhile she is using her failure as a teacher to bargain for more money against the parents wanting a decent education for their children.
— Ross Schumann (@RossSchumann) December 30, 2022
Ding! Ding! Ding!
School choice only defunds public schools if families, in mass, choose to leave. Families leave if they are bad schools.
Arguing that school choice "defunds” public schools" is an admission that public schools are bad. Why would you want to trap poor kids in bad schools?
— Latina Libertarian (@viva_libertad34) December 30, 2022
Bingo! Nobody is forced to leave public schools. That’s why it’s called ‘school choice’. Parents would only make that choice if there was a better option for their kids.
Piper and company would deny that choice to parents, in service of the powerful teachers unions. To quote Piper for Missouri: ‘Bootlickers’.
You realize that school choice means you still have the choice to get your kids educated at a public school?
— Jason E. (@JaeDog105) December 30, 2022
She does. She also realizes her schools often lose that competition.
— OldHickoryLake (@OleHickoryLake) December 30, 2022
LOLOLOL!
‘Fascists’. It’s like their safe word.
Intentional irony? Always hard to tell on Twitter. The definition of fascism: a way of organizing a society in which a government ruled by a dictator controls the lives of the people and in which people are not allowed to disagree with the GOVERNMENT (+their minions)
— Danielle LoPorto (@DanielleLoporto) December 30, 2022
There seems to be only one side here dedicated to forcing parents and students into a government-sanctioned choice.
Hint: It’s not the school choice crowd.
"bootlicker" says the person fighting to trap kids in failing government schools pic.twitter.com/qO2sqABFE5
— Corey A. DeAngelis (@DeAngelisCorey) December 30, 2022
How about simp? Like that one better, friend? That’s seems an accurate description for your corporate bootlicking behavior. ☺️
— Piper for Missouri (@piper4missouri) December 30, 2022
This isn’t going well for Piper.
Why do you want to keep brown & black children in failing schools because of their street address Piper? I DARE you to debate Eva Moskowitz, CEO of Success Charters. DARE you to explain her results. Simpleton.
— Stacey – Restorationist (@ScotsFyre) December 30, 2022
Ouch. How about it, Piper?
“School choice” is catnip to a certain subset of men. Look no further than my comment section to verify my theory. These men are stimulated and frothing at the thought of denying children an education. It’s depraved and sick.
— Piper for Missouri (@piper4missouri) December 30, 2022
Yep, you guessed it! It’s time for the ‘I’m the victim here’ phase.
Tale as old as time. LOL.
You: I want to hold children hostage in failing public schools.
Everyone: that’s a bad idea.
You: OMG SEXISM.
— The Redheaded libertarian (@TRHLofficial) December 30, 2022
The ‘certain subset of men’ has some unexpected members. Just sayin’.
Hello, woman here. School choice because government education is failing our youth.
Btw your tweet is beyond bizarre.— Damn it Janet ♥️ (@JanetSYoung1) December 31, 2022
Who would have guessed that women are big advocates of school choice? (Everyone, that’s who.)
This is a really strange sexist tweet.
— 🎇🍾Auld Lang Trish🍾🎇 (@wtffiles) December 30, 2022
Piper’s running out of accusations. It had to get weird.
If teachers would just teach kids to READ and do basic math, then we wouldn’t have to scream for school choice. But public school teachers are failing miserably with this important task.
— LibertyJ (@LibertyJen) December 31, 2022
Now we’re getting to the root of the problem that Piper wants to ignore, or thinks can be solved by throwing more money at it: parents are not satisfied with the results they’re getting from public schools.
— Alexander (@alexpigeon) December 31, 2022
Bwahaha!
Yesterday, I said “school choice” was like catnip for a certain subset of men. That certain subset of men have been prowling, claws out, practically licking my face to deny the catnip theory 🤭
— Piper for Missouri (@piper4missouri) December 31, 2022
We’re pretty sure you’re not that popular, ma’am.
this you? pic.twitter.com/mi0hYqxbor
— Corey A. DeAngelis (@DeAngelisCorey) December 30, 2022
Confirmed. LOL.
Thankfully, Missouri was not for Piper.
