Vox published an article by Emily St. James that makes the argument that we shouldn’t be worried so much about kids transitioning as we should NOT letting kids transition.
The primary point of the article was that it’s damaging to trans kids to prevent them from transitioning using puberty blockers and surgeries. The claim put forward is that we are essentially conducting a giant experiment by delaying these children from transitioning.
A growing number of kids identifying as transgender and seeking to make permanent physical changes to their bodies also seems like a giant experiment.
Stop worrying about what happens if we let kids transition. Worry about what happens if we don’t. https://t.co/0AtsFKR3jX

Twitter users had opinions on the article and its claims.
1/ Thread: This Vox article is really bad. It seriously overstates the evidence for the efficacy of youth medical transition while attempting to pressure science journalists — already scared of this subject — into not doing their jobs.https://t.co/NaHWbSW1Dv

Much of the radical trans movement’s efforts rely on intimidating others not to talk about valid concerns by accusing any dissenters of ‘hate’.
Read Jesse’s full thread. We’ll give some of the highlights here.
4/These claims are just straight-up false. We don’t know if PBs are reversible — that’s why the NHS backed off language claiming they are. That question is a source of major dispute. And Forcier’s claim here isn’t just wrong, in the context of *youth* trans care — it’s laughable. pic.twitter.com/zzxa33wEoP

This claim is widespread and not well-supported.
6/ All this stuff about how there have always been trans kids is misdirection. There is, in fact, a massive increase in the number of kids *seeking medical transition* just about everywhere — that is its own issue and there is no consensus explanation as to why it’s the case. pic.twitter.com/erM0rL1Yrt
— Jesse Singal (@jessesingal) September 30, 2022
That’s the real kicker now, isn’t it? Why is there a sudden increase? At least one possible explanation is that it’s more acceptable and even a popular notion among youth. The last thing we should be doing is encouraging these children to make life-altering physical modifications to their bodies.
Other Twitter users were more direct.
No. Stop mutilating children.

Agreed.
No, let’s worry if we do. Medically unnecessary life altering drugs and surgery aren’t a casual thing to not worry about. Many kids are pushed into it due to choosing toys or dress not typical of their sex. Just experiencing normal development & exploration, then get hijacked.

What he said.
"What happens if we don't make kids transition?"
They'll be more likely to grow into happy, healthy adults, for starters. Stop preying on kids to further your political agenda. https://t.co/Yy1TY7BNcj

Yep. Leave these decisions to adulthood.
Who's "we"? https://t.co/HaITM5JVr8
— jimtreacher.substack.com (@jtLOL) September 30, 2022
Good question.
Every issue they force around the issue of trans always comes back to this threat: that if we don't X, they'll commit suicide. Before we flip 10000 years of civilization on its end, maybe research that more. https://t.co/8fe2NQKOGP

There it is. ‘If you don’t allow us to make permanent physical changes to children, you just want them to die.’ Absurd.
These people are obsessed with children. https://t.co/6lDroQJW8F

Part of normalizing their agenda is onboarding kids.
This thing isn't happening and it's fine if it happens and in fact you should be in favor of this thing that isn't happening pic.twitter.com/VNvxPW1P02

Heh.
These people are evil. https://t.co/cMjIDXtSrM

These are children. Sometimes it just needs to be said.
