Like many of you, I have lost family members to drug addiction and overdose.
That among many other reasons is why I got angry reading this post from the POTUS account and whatever 20-something White House staffer(s) wrote it without any pangs of compunction whatsoever:
Today I grieve with all the families and friends who have lost someone to an overdose.
— President Biden (@POTUS) August 31, 2024
This is a time to act.
And this is a time to stand together — for all those we have lost and all the lives we can still save.
I agree with the sentiment but otherwise are these people for real? Kamala Harris' VP account has something similar.
Sorry, but I can't take anybody's concern about drugs and overdose seriously after witnessing what we've all seen from this administration since January 20th, 2021.

It’s on you and your open border. https://t.co/ObVAiiOm4A

They can't have an open border AND claim to care about solving the problem.

There have been people arguing that those pushing fentanyl and other drugs aren't taking advantage of the Biden-Harris open border, which is complete BS that simply flies in the face of common sense.
The L.A. Times ran an editorial that claims illegal immigrants aren't smuggling fentanyl into the U.S.

There have been numerous arrests of illegal immigrants caught backpacking fentanyl across the border.
I will post some of those busts below. We only know what law enforcement… pic.twitter.com/hYm9dBUMXU
From Fox News' Bill Melugin earlier this year:
The L.A. Times ran an editorial that claims illegal immigrants aren't smuggling fentanyl into the U.S.
There have been numerous arrests of illegal immigrants caught backpacking fentanyl across the border. I will post some of those busts below. We only know what law enforcement publicizes.
Here are the facts about fentanyl smuggling: Are the large crowds of migrants looking to turn themselves into Border Patrol after crossing illegally smuggling fentanyl? No.
Are drug smugglers backpacking it in through remote areas where there are few, if any agents on the line because they are busy processing huge groups of migrants elsewhere? Yes.
And with 1.8 million + known gotaways, it's impossible to know how much is getting in. It is true that the overwhelming majority of fentanyl seized at the southern border is in vehicles at ports of entry coming into the U.S., usually being smuggled by U.S. citizens. But in fiscal year 2023, Border Patrol seized over 2,840 lbs of fentanyl *between* ports of entry.
There is no breakdown on how much of that is vehicles stopped at BP checkpoints vs illegal immigrants caught backpacking it, but to claim that illegal immigrants don't smuggle fentanyl into the U.S. is provably false.
The Biden social media team now shining a light on the problem of drugs and overdoses when, to a large degree, they'd do more to help by telling whoever is running the White House they could just reverse everything Biden did on day one in office and save lives. They won't, which is why we need a change on Election Day.
