Earlier today the Supreme Court ruled 6-3 that New York’s law requiring citizens to show “proper cause” in order to receive a license to carry a concealed handgun outside the home is unconstitutional. New York Gov. Kathy Hochul immediately made her displeasure known in a familiar and mock-worthy way:

Not to be outdone, New York City Mayor Eric Adams actually is concerned that the ruling will make his city a dangerous place:

Adams is concerned the SCOTUS ruling might ruin the peaceful utopia that is New York City right now? Laughable.
Too late

@ericadamsfornyc
it was actually safer in the Wild Wild West than it is in NYC right now. Maybe do you effing job and things might get better. https://t.co/RHb4WmqaOX— Trixie Robinson (@TrixieRobinson4) June 23, 2022
At least in the wild west there were sheriffs who were allowed to actually keep criminals in jails and off the streets.

What does he mean “become” the Wild West? Isn’t NYC pretty much there? https://t.co/sOQ8naVkOy

Perhaps Adams should look at it the other way around:
Then you are long over due. NY is already the Wild West. This is going to help deter criminals. People have the right to protect themselves https://t.co/8S6pUveLbt

The mayor should also look at the May crime stats for his city before expressing concern that a SCOTUS ruling will be what makes NYC dangerous:
Overall index crime in New York City increased by 27.8% in May 2022 compared with May 2021 (10,414 v. 8,149). Each of the seven major index crime categories saw increases, driven by a 42.1% increase in grand larceny (4,116 v. 2,897); a 28.3% rise in burglary (1,239 v. 966); and a 26.2% increase in robbery (1,506 v. 1,193).
Adams getting upset over the SCOTUS ruling is the last thing he should be worrying about right now.
