As you’ve probably heard, NPR is standing by Nina Totenberg’s reporting about a SCOTUS mask feud even though the justices involved have said it didn’t happen:

NPR media correspondent David Folkenflik is saying the story has been “challenged by the right”:
NPR's Nina Totenberg's reporting on Justices Gorsuch & Sotomayor and masking has been challenged by the right; Chief Justice Roberts now appears to deny thrust of her story. Totenberg & NPR stand by it – I'm told NPR's public editor will post on this later today.

“Challenged by the right”? Interesting take:
It wasn't "challenged" on the right — it was disputed by all 3 SCOTUS justices involved. Being told something untrue that is refuted by each involved party happens — but it's why you should be extremely leery of reports from people unwilling to put their name behind claims.

"Challenged by the right"? LOL. Try – "challenged by all the Justices involved." #DefundNPR https://t.co/4iJKHgC9Vt

It wasn't challenged by "the right". It was challenged by 3 on the record SCOTUS justices. https://t.co/lrG09XNjjf

And by “on the right” you mean three Supreme Court justices of varying ideologies including the allegedly wronged party.
— Sunny McSunnyface (@sunnyright) January 20, 2022
Dude. The Justices in question disputed the story. Let it go and move on.

We never thought we’d see Sonia Sotomayor described as being “on the right.”
Eviscerated by Sotomayor, you mean? You consider her to the right? https://t.co/sxmbiSCgqN

US Supreme Court Justices involved all deny it happened.
NPR: We stand by our correspondent's reporting.
Roberts: “I did not request Justice Gorsuch or any other Justice to wear a mask on the bench.”
NPR: "Roberts now appears to deny thrust of her story."
Ridiculous. https://t.co/pPvKHqkOAw

He didn't appear to deny it. He denied it. https://t.co/Q8Fow6ME1p
— Erick Erickson (@EWErickson) January 20, 2022
Wonder if Justice Sotomayor will be surprised she is “on the right”? https://t.co/qr4aUqQSrl

HAHAHAHA this is a weird hill to die on. Roberts didn’t APPEAR to deny, he DID deny…
— Kristi (@Kristi_Weaver4) January 20, 2022
But “die on that hill” NPR seems prepared to do.
