In a Rose Garden speech this past May, President Obama announced that 2014 would be “the year we will conclude our combat mission in Afghanistan.”
That no longer appears to be the case:
NYT: In surprise move, Obama changes course, authorizes another year of war in Afghanistan. http://t.co/XcT2JJWpRT

From the NYT:
President Obama decided in recent weeks to authorize a more expansive mission for the military in Afghanistan in 2015 than originally planned, a move that ensures American troops will have a direct role in fighting in the war-ravaged country for at least another year.
Another “promise” bites the dust:
.@BarackObama is POTUS b/c he said he could
1. Change culture of DC
2. End war in Iraq/Afghanistan

@ron_fournier Here is a reminder of how Obama and the Democrats campaigned on Afghanistan in 2012. Pretty ironic. pic.twitter.com/cUCcT4Zxg5

There could be hell to pay whenever Obama turns on the news:

That might not happen for a while because he’s busy at the moment.
