Joe Biden putting his foot in his mouth is a regular occurrence for which the veep has lately been apologizing profusely.
At today’s press conference, Josh Earnest said President Obama still has implicit trust in Biden, and that the veep’s apologies are testaments to the high level of his character, or something:

Perhaps the reporter’s question should have been “exactly how ridiculous would the vice president have to get before losing the confidence of the president?”
