Quack translation: How CNN website originally quoted Obama saying 'we screwed it up'

“We screwed it up” got lost in translation before landing in the headline of a story on CNN’s website:

At some point the mis-quote was caught, because CNN’s “screwed the duck” headline turned into this:

We preferred “screwed the duck,” but whatever.

Many on Twitter either also heard “screwed the duck” or repeated it because of CNN’s original story:

Obama actually just said, "We screwed the duck."
