Back in 2018 when Donald Trump was in the White House, a New York Times fact-check ruled that the Washington Post operated completely independent of its owner, Amazon’s Jeff Bezos. That was in response to remarks from Trump slamming Bezos and his company for the U.S. Postal Service losing billions shipping packages for Amazon while Bezos’ company made bank.
However, a recent tweet from a Times reporter has been spotted that calls the fact-check into question:
2018: NYT fact checks Trump saying WaPo operates independently from Bezos
Today: NYT journo notes Bezos used WaPo to spin bad press about his affair

So Bezos has leveraged his ownership of the Post for personal reasons?
Incredible story of how Jeff Bezos used his ownership of The Post and Jamal Khashoggi's totally unrelated murder to beat back tabloid coverage of his personal life. Really one of the most cynical (and brilliant) bits of PR I've ever seen. https://t.co/VqxmFSQqNC

Well… that certainly changes the claims that Bezos operates completely independent from the paper he owns.
