President Trump’s address to the nation Monday morning obviously got plenty of media attention, but the New York Times’ apparent failure to provide enough liberal narrative in their front-page headline has sparked some backlash:
The New York Times is not making any friends tonight with that headline. ? pic.twitter.com/j8sUiw65kX
— Josh Jordan (@NumbersMuncher) August 6, 2019
The headline is accurate and factual but it doesn't match the narrative that feverishly anti-Trump journalists have invented and promulgated in recent years, so they are upset. https://t.co/dwlPeegQ4G

The Times didn’t go full Resistance nearly enough for some:
Tomorrow's NYT print edition.
Not sure "TRUMP URGES UNITY VS. RACISM" is how I would have framed the story. pic.twitter.com/quOibXsp32
— Nate Silver (@NateSilver538) August 6, 2019
It’s definitely not how Beto O’Rourke would have framed it:
Unbelievable. https://t.co/rLgaacttDS
— Beto O'Rourke (@BetoORourke) August 6, 2019
Wait, we thought attacking the media was a horrifically unpatriotic thing to do? That rule must have been temporarily suspended. Other blue-check members of the anti-Trump Resistance brigade slammed the Times as well:
As I said before, it’s like Memento with Trump and some large swathes of the press. https://t.co/Hw4vzn61X5

@nytimes your headline which I WILL NOT share is why I am cancelling my subscription. White supremacy is aided by the cowardice of news organizations who are not writing with objectivity about the times we live in. #WhiteNationalistTerrorism

Trump “urging” for unity? shameful headline by The NY Times pic.twitter.com/QhSpSaUG86

INT – THE NY TIMES – DAY
"But that's not what happened"
"Yeah, I know but –"
"This is a dishonest headline"
"Sure. But it will trigger the libs."
"But isn't it about telling the truth? All the news–"
"Trigger. The. Libs."— Oliver Willis (@owillis) August 6, 2019
NYT is a handmaiden to fascism. https://t.co/apSUNx3TRx
— Eli Valley (@elivalley) August 6, 2019
On the same day as this excellent piece, the banner headline was TRUMP URGEST UNITY VS. RACISM on the front page of the New York Times in August of 2019. I can't get over this. https://t.co/EkYH6imNRR
— Bruce Arthur (@bruce_arthur) August 6, 2019
Better headline: TIMES BUCKLES UNDER TO RACIST DICTATOR https://t.co/0XDorLppmO
— Anita Creamer (@AnitaCreamer) August 6, 2019
That's it. This is what finally did it for me. On the phone cancelling my subscription, which btw, is a very annoying thing to have to do. We have a corporate account, so I didn't need to give them my money, I just did it. I'll find another way to support journalism. https://t.co/5WlFi7bMog
— dell cameron (@dellcam) August 6, 2019
Trump dispassionately read a statement from a teleprompter that completely ignored his history of racial and violent incitement and this is the headline at the New York Times.
Given the recent history of the NYT, I didn't think I could be this stunned. https://t.co/PfihetpjDe
— Matt Ortega (@MattOrtega) August 6, 2019
C'mon @nytimes seriously? https://t.co/ru4EahMkOz
— Amy Siskind ?️? (@Amy_Siskind) August 6, 2019
This is malpractice. https://t.co/bJQEuDRLcw

Basically the people who write the New York Times’s Trump-related tweets and headlines should all be fired.
Ridiculous. https://t.co/zARwOrAzlX

When all those low-information New York Times readers end up voting for Trump again, blame the headline writers https://t.co/7HEDDgzkkI
— Bill Scher (@billscher) August 6, 2019
I write for the NYT. This is a terrible headline. https://t.co/ODa8SUK9wf
— Wajahat Ali (@WajahatAli) August 6, 2019
Enjoy your hate mail, NY Times!
It’s fascinating to see the outraged reaction to this – as if reporting what objectively happened is no longer considered the job of a journalistic outlet. https://t.co/qbsx5EEbPV
— Steve Krakauer (@SteveKrak) August 6, 2019
The NYT reports with a liberal bias 99 out of 100 times but you're going to complain about the one headline that is accurate? https://t.co/u8SeP0JwZ0
— Oregon Designer (@Easycure) August 6, 2019
Why yes — yes they are.
Update: And AOC also condemned the Times:
Let this front page serve as a reminder of how white supremacy is aided by – and often relies upon – the cowardice of mainstream institutions. https://t.co/ynjgtT66yI
