As we reported earlier, State Department Spokesman John Kirby sure made the payment to Iran as four American citizens were released from custody sound like the textbook definition of a ransom.
Fox News’ Brit Hume isn’t buying the White House’s continued insistence that the payment wasn’t a ransom, and believes it’s time the State Department fessed up:
State Dept. might as well just admit it was ransom at this point. Everyone can see that it was: https://t.co/Yjx7dzYXlo

Hume thinks there’s no way around seeing it as anything but a ransom payment:
Brit, it was Irans own money. Therefore it isn't ransom by definition.

Sorry, definition of ransom is simply money paid to gain a captive's release. https://t.co/N9vLtpWR01

What are the odds the Obama administration would ever admit paying Iran a ransom? More towards the “none” side of “slim and none.”
How dumb are #WeThePeople considered to be? https://t.co/4CLHu3JvLz

Even if it wasn't ransom (it was), they still lied to us. Separate negotiations? pic.twitter.com/tHSy7a8Cqt
