President Obama has proposed an oil fee that would supposedly go to fund infrastructure projects and of course help save the world from “climate change”:

T. Boone Pickens is definitely not a supporter of the idea:

Well, Obama did once say energy prices would “necessarily skyrocket” if he got his way.

  • John Howard

    Because taxes solve every problem.

    • tjp77

It solves the problem of destroying industries you don’t like. Just as he did with coal.

    • Topcat69 the Deplorable

Don’t you love the part about ‘paid for by the oil companies?’ Does the administration think we are all idiots? Well I guess 51% of us are.

Well, the smart thing to do is start a ‘clean transportation’ company and start lobbying your friendly members of Congress to throw money your way. Nothing more efficient than crony capitalism.

      • John Howard

Phrased another way, ‘Recoup some of the massive losses due to subsidies of electric vehicles.”

      • John Galt

That’s right, all we need to do is eliminate all personal taxes and make them all paid by companies…problem solved, right?

    • Jesse B. Hammer

Not exactly, because “foremost” it’s demonization of “Big Blankety Blank” (#BigOil in this case) that solves every problem. During the 2008 gasoline-price-spike, I found myself in an argument with Leftist co/workers who were bashing oil-companies for the high prices…When I reminded them of something called OPEC which hikes the per-barrel price (with which we’re stuck since the little green monsters extort the govt into keeping hands off our own oil reserves. Well, my little green co/workers scoffed at that because “never-mind-OPEC-it’s-#BigOil’s-fault”. That’s the obtuse mentality to which O’s pandering.

    • Frustrated Teacher

It solves the problem of what to do with the middle class….the left always struggles to destroy the middle…Obama has perfected it…

    • interestedobserver2

And what’s even better, he’s describing it as a “fee” so he can avoid being accused of passing a “tax” (which ONLY the House of Representatives can actually do). This should lead to some excellent law suits over the next decade or so. Obama’s legacy is now secure — his name will be in print for years to come as they government tries to straighten out all his illegal usurpations of power.

      • linnilu

You mean only the House of Representatives and the Supreme Court can pass a tax, even if Roberts has to change the wording.

  • Arkuy The Great

We have definitely seen this movie before. Last time it was called Windfall Profit Tax.

Don’t tell me that Obama gives a shit about the middle class because this tax will hit the middle class most.

They already tax gasoline sale, and if they stopped using it for everything but the roads, our roads could be paved with gold.

    • caffinated1

That whole “middle class” thing is just in the way of real class warfare.

  • FeedTheGrizzly!! $15!

Wasn’t infrastructure supposed to have been fixed 7 years ago with 800 billion in shovel ready work projects? Oh! That’s right, he used it for solyndra, grants to acorn and the like.

    • bil_g

Didn’t you hear? The Japanese created a shovel that stands up on it’s own.

(Actually heard that one in my short incarceration in the Communist Republic of California.)

      • Paul V

Sounds like the story a father of friend of mine used to tell about the WPA “worker” that was leaning on his spade when a dog came up and peed on his leg. He looked down and said ” dammit dog, if I had another spade, I’d hit ya.”

    • Lemonhead

Ya and don’t you love how he chuckled when asked about his stimulus, those shovel ready jobs weren’t so shovel ready, what an a-hole

  • gfnc55

The biggest economic moron on the planet rides again! Y’all reckon someone can splain to him that corporate taxes and fees like this oil scheme/scam are actually paid by us little consumers? It is all passed along to the end user. Nawww…..he’s totally untrainable.

    • mblack

Have you noticed that he waited until now when the oil industry is floundering due to low oil prices to levy another tax on them? Just when it will hurt the most?

  • bil_g

T has a twitter account?! God bless America.

And Jesus trash the market. Mwuhahaha!!

  • mblack

Of course it’s the point! Drive oil companies out of business the shady way, make life unbearable for the Americans that Obama despises…its a win-win for Nobama!

    • Prairie Sarah

Yeah, the current republicans seem to have rolled over and given in to the emperor’s demands. It’s very curious.

    • JosephBloughs ✓Viagrafied

What they’ll do if history is any indication is they’ll “compromise” by passing a law that (unconstitutionally) allows the president to arbitrarily enact his “fee” (tax), and if Congress doesn’t like it they can override it with a super majority (again unconstitutional) the GOP can never achieve. Ted Cruz will oppose by introducing poison pill amendments but to no avail, followed by GOP candidates for president claiming it only proves Cruz supported the bill from the get go by introducing amendments to it. Then leadership will come out and say, “we did all we can, but sorry, that darn Obama….”

  • miscast

A tax is a tax is a tax… The biggest issue isn’t what he plans to do with the money, but rather he doesn’t have the ability to tell the truth and say “Hey, I want to tax you people. Even though you don’t agree with my ideas.”…. That might be the problem with all politicians but Obama has ability to believe his own bullshit..

    • John Hitchcock

Obama doesn’t believe anything he says is bad. He also has his little generals pushing flags of imaginary troops around a big map, so he thinks he’s still winning.

  • Skirtandzy

Proposed now, to roll out over 5 years.

This means if we can ouster this regime, the next president will have to deal with the fallout from higher gas prices.

Maybe The Wun doesn’t really believe that there will be a next president.

    • John Hitchcock

Employer mandate. Originally set to kick in once he got voted out, but then he didn’t get voted out, so he illegally pushed it back to a time when he was done, so the Republicans would get the blame for the resultant spike in unemployment.

Also, the interest on the debt is just now starting to climb, so the huge hit on the budget won’t take effect until after he leaves. Once again, able to blame it on Republicans.

      • Whoare”they”?✓Deplorable

yup, go right from blaming Bush, to blaming who ever is next republican. I hear all the time how great Clinton was, but if you look at the whole picture, economy was up when he came in and down when he left.

Don’t even joke about that. A couple years ago the state legislature actually introduced a bill to raise the gas tax since the prices had been dropping. Fortunately we had a $0.25 a gallon raise in price while the bill was in committee. It died there.

  • Vindicated

There is pretty much NOTHING you touch every single day in your life that isn’t affected by the price of oil.

This isn’t about bankrupting oil companies. They are untouchable. (No blood for oil was the dumbest thing I ever heard. You might as well say No blood for oxygen).

This is about money and power for DC. Screwing the middle class is just another benny for the POS that is POTUS.

  • John Galt

Let’s not forget that Pickens was all for the solar energy craze maybe half a dozen years back. He invested about two billion dollars (not to mention all he spent on those TV commercials starring him, that tried to sell us all on solar energy) and lost his a$$. He sold it all last year at a huge loss, saying solar energy can’t work, the technology is too far off to make it pay on a large scale, and the current infrastructure can’t support it.

So, you can’t say that this guy is in the tank for oil. He’s in the tank for what works, and he wanted solar to work. I kinda believe that if his money couldn’t make it work, I think that’s good enough for me.

    • ceemack

“…saying solar energy can’t work, the technology is too far off to make it pay on a large scale, and the current infrastructure can’t support it.”

No, you’re not dreaming. They will thank O for his help, and blame the greedy repub oil companies for forcing you to pay more. After all, he will say, and they will believe, “they have enough money. Why do they want to screw you out of the extra cost they are passing along to you? Send them an angry email or tweet if their price increase makes you angry, and tell them off if they say “they had no choice, it wasn’t up to them.” That means they’re lying to you.”

This or some other BS will sail right into the PC Lib mind, and roughly half or more of us have this Zika like infection, which makes the brain effectively much smaller.

What’s he using the massive tax per gallon we’re already paying for? Does he not realize that the federal government already gets almost 19 cents per gallon plus another 40 to 60 cents added by each State on fuel sold? The taxes are far, far higher already than the net profit margin on a gallon of fuel. You know, the money that goes to the owners of the company like my 401k and paltry investment accounts.

It crushes the hated oil industry with the intent of an eventual gubmint takeover.

$9 trillion in fresh debt and he is still talking about roads, bridges and infrastructure. In the first $890 billion stimulus plan, Department of Transportation received approximately 10%-12% of the stimulus for “shovel ready jobs.” We quickly found out they were not so “shovel ready.” By the way, what was $9 trillion spent on?

  • Suzyqpie

Crude oil is at 31.33 $US today. A $10.00 per barrel fee/tax/mandate is 32%, de facto, price increase. Pres Obama has zero ability to think through the implications of anything. That would be an economic disaster.
