IRS commissioner John Koskinen is appearing before the House Ways and Means Committee today and testifying about the “lost” Lois Lerner emails.
While Republicans have used the opportunity to grill Koskinen about the “lost” emails, some Democrats on the committee have actually spent their time apologizing not to the American people for the IRS targeting, but to Koskinen and the agency for the investigation into that targeting. Among those apologizing to Koskinen and the IRS was Rep. John Lewis:
RepLewis to IRS Comm: I want to apologize to you for how you've been treated and give you my five minutes to say what you'd like to say.

Brilliant political optics by Dems…defending, apologizing to (!), and praising the #IRS, which is widely beloved by the public.

When it came time for Rep. Paul Ryan to ask questions, he was in disbelief:
RepRyan says: This is unbelievable! We should be apologizing to the American people, not govt agency like this.
— Shannon Bream (@ShannonBream) June 20, 2014
Paul Ryan: Shouldn't the IRS be apologizing to the America people instead of people on this Committee apologizing for the #IRS?

Ryan then went on to shred the IRS and Obama administration’s story about the “lost” Lerner emails:
IRS Comm to RepRyan – no one has ever told me they don't believe me. Ryan: I don't believe you.

Oof!
Paul Ryan is absolutely destroying the IRS commissioner this morning for his embarrassing testimony claiming there was no wrongdoing.

"This is a pattern of abuse, a pattern of behavior that is not giving us any confidence that this agency is being impartial" -Ryan #IRS

"You ask taxpayers to hold onto 7 yrs of info incase they are audited and you can't keep track emails past 6 months?" -Ryan #IRS

Ryan is clearly, obviously angry as he accuses #IRS of misleading Congress. Don’t see that kind of anger from Ryan very often. He’s furious.
