Jemele Hill Knows That Fox News' Peter Doocy Wanted to Say Something Racist

AP Photo/Stephen B. Morton

I don't want to shock any readers, so be advised that this post about Jemele Hill contains accusations of racism. In case you missed it, Fox News' Peter Doocy on Tuesday asked Karine Jean-Pierre what was up with Kamala Harris' accent at a Labor Day rally in Detroit. Doocy described it as a "southern accent," but this was Detroit, and Foghorn Leghorn of Loony Tunes went viral after people heard Harris. Check it out:

What is that? She already did her southern accent at a rally in Atlanta. Harris, who was born in California and went to school in Montreal, Quebec, sure has picked up a lot of accents. Here's three minutes of her "code-switching."

Atlantic contributing writer Hill says that there ain't no way Doocey wanted to say "southern accent." What did he want to say, then? Be specific.

So this was Harris' black accent coming through in Detroit? Is that what Hill's trying to say? And *some* white folks don't know how Harris' dialect is rooted in her black background?

We just heard Harris speak at the Democratic National Convention, and it didn't sound anything like this. Yes, I know about code-switching, but it's always had a negative connotation, as in blacks having to talk "white" to advance in society.

Hillary Clinton's Southern Baptist preacher accent was really bad. Have you noticed how Donald Trump never adopts fake accents to pander to the crowd he's addressing?

To be honest, I thought it was a waste of a question by Doocy and would have left it alone. Still, the reason he brought it up is because that clip from Detroit had gone viral for exactly that reason. No one was passing around the clip to promote her policies.

Joe Biden's probably the most racist president in our lifetimes — I won't even begin to get into some of his choice quotes — but even he tries to code-switch, telling a black audience that if they vote for Trump then "they ain't black." And Mitt Romney was "gonna put y'all back in chains." No joke. And I've never heard Hill criticize him.

Harris is a fake. If Hill wants to defend that, that's her business.
