Uber's DEI head sent packing after employees say they felt 'scolded' during training

At the very end of his term, President Donald Trump tried to kill off DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) training at federal agencies by cutting off the funding. It’s too bad he hadn’t started earlier. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has picked up the ball and defunded the DEI departments at all state universities. No more mandatory sessions where you learn about “whiteness” and how to overcome it.

Fortune reports that Uber’s head of DEI has been put on leave after a revolt by employees who said they were “scolded” during training events with themes like, “Don’t Call Me Karen.”

Fortune reports:

Bo Young Lee has headed up Uber’s DEI department for the past five years but recently came under fire for moderating two events titled “Don’t Call Me Karen.”

The events were billed as “diving into the spectrum of the American white woman’s experience” and featured conversations with white women at the company who sought to have an “open and honest conversation about race.”

The invitation, seen by the New York Times, also focused on the “Karen” persona.

A Karen is a term coined online for an entitled white woman, who threatens to report BAME (Black, Asian, and minority ethnic) individuals to authorities or complains about staff to their managers—in short, unnecessarily inserting themselves into situations and causing conflict with their prejudices.

Uber staffers who attended the two events—the first held last month, the second last week—said they felt they had been lectured on the difficulties experienced by white women and why “Karen” was a derogatory term.

Look at everyone who jumped on the Karen who tried to steal a black teenager’s bike.

It’s always a victory when someone in DEI is put on leave or fired. The fact that these corporations even have DEI coordinators on staff is a sign of cultural rot.
