As you certainly know by now, American democracy is utterly fragile and in trouble of shattering any second now, but especially if the Republicans take back the House in 2022. On the eve of January 6, it was former President Jimmy Carter’s turn to warn us just how in danger our democracy is. The man who served as an election observer in countries around the world had a stark warning for America, which he sees teetering on the edge of civil conflict.

CNN reports that “on Wednesday, Carter wrote that ‘promoters of the lie that the election was stolen have taken over one political party and stoked distrust in our electoral systems.'”
Wait, which election was stolen? Because it wasn’t that long ago that Carter himself was questioning the legitimacy of Donald Trump’s presidency:
“I think a full investigation would show that Trump didn’t actually win the election in 2016. He lost the election, and he was put into office because the Russians interfered on his behalf.”

Carter does know that it’s the Democrats who have not been able to accept losses at the polls. Trump just followed their lead, which wasn’t allowed, since he was a Republican.
