Optics: Band formerly known as Lady Antebellum files suit against black blues singer who goes by 'Lady A'

As Twitchy reported back in June, country band Lady Antebellum decided to go along with the trend of purging anything Confederate-sounding and announced on Instagram they’d from here on out be known as “Lady A.” The only problem is that there is a black blues singer who goes by “Lady A” who’s been performing for 20 years under the name. “For them to not even reach out is pure privilege,” she said.

Now it looks like the whole thing is going to end up in an ugly lawsuit, with the newly woke band filing suit against the blues singer for use of the name.

The Hollywood Reporter writes:

“Today we are sad to share that our sincere hope to join together with Anita White in unity and common purpose has ended,” the group said in a statement. “She and her team have demanded a $10 million payment, so reluctantly we have come to the conclusion that we need to ask a court to affirm our right to continue to use the name Lady A, a trademark we have held for many years.”

So the white country group changed its name to appease Black Lives Matter and is now suing a black blues singer who offered them the name for a mere $10 million. That’s not a good look for anybody, but especially the band.
