Picture of crying girl that TIME took completely out of context for its cover wins Photo of the Year Award

Do you know what’s even more fun than watching the Academy Awards? Watching the press awards roll in every year to see liberal journalists celebrating their achievements in activism.

As Twitchy reported, CNN won a Cronkite Award for the Parkland show trial the network threw together just a week following the mass shooting and before most of the details were in. As Dana Loesch pointed out, the whole debacle was run “like a WWE event,” with participants even given walk-on music. (The Black Eyed Peas’ “Let’s Get It Started” blasting over the PA — a great way to set the somber tone for a serious discussion.)

And then TIME magazine awarded “Person of the Year” to a handful of journalists — real journalists who actually face persecution or even death for their reporting, not CNN journalists crying because they had to sit in the back row at a press conference.

And speaking of TIME magazine, do you remember this cover playing up the separation of migrant children from their families under the Trump administration?

Remember that: “A reckoning after Trump’s border separation policy.”

Well, the photo from which TIME cropped that child has won the World Press Photo of the Year award.

Yes, she did become the iconic face of President Trump’s “zero tolerance” immigration policy — despite the fact that she was never actually separated from her mother, who can be seen standing directly next to her in the uncropped photo. The child was put down for two seconds so mom could be frisked by Border Patrol agents, having just crossed illegally into the country (again).

“The mother hesitated and then set down the little girl and the child immediately started crying,” said the photographer to People magazine.

The girl was separated from her family in one sense: her mother took her from her father in Honduras.

Here’s what the girl’s father told the Daily Mail: “You can imagine how I felt when I saw that photo of my daughter. It broke my heart. It’s difficult as a father to see that, but I know now that they are not in danger. They are safer now than when they were making that journey to the border,'” he said, adding that they’d been detained at a family residential center in Texas.

So mom takes a two-year-old away from her father, drags her from Honduras to Texas, sets her down for two minutes and she’s caught on camera crying — and that convinced Americans that Trump was putting babies in death camps.

Yes, exactly.
