Intersectionality showdown: Muslim parents prevail over elementary school's LGBT-friendly curriculum

You might remember the story from last month about a group of Muslim parents who were threatening to take their children out of a Birmingham, U.K. elementary school that was teaching children about LGBT rights and homophobia. The school’s principal defended the “No Outsiders” project, but parents argued that the curriculum clashed with their Muslim faith and that the children were too young to be talking about LGBT issues.

A month later, the school has dropped the “No Outsiders” project after hundreds of parents pulled their children from the school for a day in protest.

The Guardian reports:

A primary school that taught pupils about homosexuality as part of a programme to challenge homophobia has stopped the lessons after hundreds of children were withdrawn by parents in protest.

Parkfield community school in Saltley, Birmingham, has been the scene of weekly protests over the lessons, which parents claim are promoting gay and transgender lifestyles.

On Friday about 600 Muslim children, aged between four and 11, were withdrawn from the school for the day, parents said. The school would not confirm the number.

Are four-year-olds now going to be committing hate crimes against gays?
