Newsweek: Mike Pence spoke to hate group … as defined by the Southern Poverty Law Center

Vice President Mike Pence — the man whose desire to establish a theocracy is so strong that liberals have warned against impeaching Trump — followed in President Trump’s footsteps by appearing Saturday at this year’s Values Voter Summit, sponsored by the Family Research Council, or, as Newsweek calls it, an anti-LGBT group.

It took writer Harriet Sinclair two whole sentences to get to the part where the Family Research Council has been labeled a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center:

Mike Pence has become the first sitting vice president to speak at the anti-LGBT Family Research Council’s Values Voter Summit, following in the footsteps of Donald Trump, who last year became the first sitting president to do so.

Labeled a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center, the Family Research Council has held an annual summit since its inception in 2006, and Trump has spoken there on four previous occasions, including during his campaign. Pence addressed the summit Saturday, reaching out to the Republican Party’s evangelical Christian supporters ahead of the midterm elections in November.

You might remember that one deranged individual used the SPLC’s list of hate groups to target the Family Research Council’s D.C. headquarters for a mass shooting. The shooter was found to have carried 15 bags of Chick-fil-A — the most anti-gay fast food out there — in his backpack, along with two 15-round magazines.

Maybe someday a reporter who’s not so lazy will stop copying and pasting the SPLC’s designation of the Family Research Council as a hate group. Maybe one would even cover the event.

MSNBC and ABC News viewers might have missed that, as both networks cropped Farrakhan out of the photo.
