It’s no wonder so many think “Trump’s America” is such a horrible place. Sure, Venezuela’s president, who during the campaign season endorsed his “revolutionary friend” Bernie Sanders, is directing tanks to run down protesters in the streets, but just look at what’s happening right here under our noses to Code Pink and Stephen Colbert.

Shocking.
States becoming authoritarian often go after comedians early. And remember, there's a woman serving jail time for laughing at Jeff Sessions. https://t.co/lHFt95TVe8

We could fact-check Sarah Kendzior on her assertion that Stephen Colbert is a comedian, but if the IRS will accept that as his occupation, we’ll let it slide. But as far as a woman serving jail time for laughing at Jeff Sessions, no, we don’t remember that.
We did cover on Wednesday the conviction of Desiree Fairooz, whom a jury found guilty on two counts — one of disorderly and disruptive conduct and a second of parading or demonstrating on Capitol grounds — in connection with a Code Pink protest at Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ confirmation hearing Jan. 10.
As the Huffington Post reported, jurors explained that it was her disruptive behavior while being escorted from the hearing that led them to convict. Here’s video from CNN showing Fairooz being removed from the hearing by Capitol Police.

And no, despite some misleading coverage, Fairooz is not “serving jail time” for laughing at Sessions — her sentencing hearing isn’t until June 21, and yet people are posting online as if she were dragged out of her house in the middle of the night like she’d made an anti-Muslim YouTube video or something. Though jail time is possible, she could be sentenced only to pay a fine.

And as far as Colbert goes, as Twitchy reported, the FCC isn’t “going after” him.
Sigh. Nearly 24 hours after @TheHill sensationalized this subject, new stories are still popping up. FCC isn't doing anything unusual here https://t.co/51TK4VY6yM

A lot of people are learning for the first time that the FCC has a speech police team because of this story. Sad that it takes a celebrity..

But that’s exactly the point. Time and time again, bad standard procedures only get remarked upon because of Trump. https://t.co/620DPK40AX
