Former Baltimore mayor Martin O’Malley’s attempt to capitalize on his gun control record during November’s Democratic debate came with particularly bad timing, as the city had just that day recorded its 300th homicide of the year. “With all due respect, it’s fair to say Baltimore is not one of the safest cities in America,” Bernie Sanders interjected.
With the new year looming, Baltimore finishes out 2015 with the highest per capita murder rate in the city’s history. CBS News reports that there have been more murders in Baltimore this year than in New York City, despite New York’s population being more than 13 times higher.

@CBSNews The mayor seems to be anti-police or is tying their hands in dealing effectively with crime.

Not all of the homicides were gun crimes; Baltimore’s 342nd murder was a stabbing on the east side, reports CBS Baltimore.
#WJZ @ 11: More violence. The city could end the year with the highest number of murders ever. @HellgrenWJZ

Unfortunately contributing to those numbers are more than 20 children, one as young as 9 days old.
