Recognizing the inherent potential of the dynamic social media platform Twitter, Hot Air founder Michelle Malkin launched Twitchy.com in the spring of 2012 to serve as a human-aggregated, real-time “newswire of the 21st century.”
Years later, Twitter itself seems to have caught on and has introduced Moments. “Every day, people share hundreds of millions of Tweets,” writes product manager Madhu Muthukumar. “Among them are things you can’t experience anywhere but on Twitter” — or Twitchy, of course.
In short, Moments adds a lightning bolt icon to Twitter, and clicking it “opens a list of Moments that matter now.”

So Twitter Moments is Twitter's way of pushing content at me that I have zero interest in reading?

That depends. Did you know that Tom Hanks found a student ID and returned it to its owner?
Theory: Tom Hanks finding student ID is clever marketing ploy to help launch Twitter Moments. Timing is interesting.

New "Twitter Moments" on the iOS app include Tom Hanks finding his student ID and McDonald's all day breakfast. Thanks, but no, @twitter.

#TwitterMoments reeks of them trying to control the topics and tell people what to think. #media control always ruins conversations.
