Comic-Con is in full swing in San Diego this weekend, and the screening of a new trailer for “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice” Saturday had the hashtag #BatmanvSuperman topping Twitter’s list of trending topics most of the day.
The new trailer featured a few seconds of previously unseen footage of actress Gal Gadot (also trending) as Wonder Woman, which had the audience cheering, but it was a few frames from earlier in the trailer that caught the eye of some conservatives.

Subtle indeed; check out the protesters in front of the Capitol carrying signs reading, “Superman = Illegal Alien,” “Aliens Are Un-American” and the very obviously Westboro Baptist Church-inspired “God Hates Aliens.” There’s also a Superman symbol with the “S” replaced by a swastika (but not a Confederate flag; shooting started a while ago).
Here’s a wider view:

Just a coincidence, or another example of a comic book franchise trying to be topical?
@redsteeze @JoeC1776 At least Superman is productive and carries his own weight.

I propose we grant immediate amnesty to any illegal alien who can leap tall buildings in a single bound. Or heat vision. @redsteeze @exjon

@redsteeze Truth Justice & the American way became passé January 20, 2009..

That takes us back to “Superman Returns,” which asked if the hero still stood for “truth, justice, all that stuff.”
@redsteeze Not to be confused with a Dennis Kucinich event #BatmanvSuperman

@redsteeze Just what everyone wanted to see in a #BatmanvSuperman movie.

We are anxious to see which president Spider-Man saves next. Hillary would look so badass on a special inauguration day cover:

“When we heard that President-Elect Obama is a collector of Spider-Man comics, we knew that these two historic figures had to meet in our comics’ Marvel Universe,” Marvel’s Joe Quesada explained at the time. “A Spider-Man fan moving into the Oval Office is an event that must be commemorated in the pages of Amazing Spider-Man.”
