Two days after the New York Times reported that the Obama administration is preparing to announce new rules to cut emissions from airplanes, the president flew in Sir David Attenborough from London for a private 30-minute chat. As Slate reported, “If Barack Obama wants you to fly across the Atlantic to talk about nature for a half-hour, then you do it.”
While it’s apparently essential to human life that air travel emissions be cut, there are certain times when only a certain person will do. That’s why the first lady is flying to London, Milan, and Vicenza this month to promote her personal initiatives, “Let Girls Learn,” “Let’s Move!” and “Joining Forces.”

In London, Mrs. Obama will discuss the cooperative efforts of the U.S. and U.K. in making sure girls around the world receive an education. Then she will fly to the Milan Expo 2015 to lead a delegation through the USA Pavilion, “American Food 2.0: United to Feed the Planet,” which may or may not incorporate a bounce house. More details on the pavilion will be released soon.
Finally, the first lady will visit members of the military stationed in Vicenza, Italy before making a quick stop in Venice to tour cultural sites.
Accompanying Mrs. Obama will be her mother, Marian Robinson, and daughters Sasha and Malia.
