Al Sharpton's latest bright idea: Have the Justice Department 'take over policing in this country'

The first alarm bell should have sounded when Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake held a post-riot press conference and specifically invited Al Sharpton by name to come to Baltimore and do his thing. Of course he came to Baltimore and met personally with the mayor in her office.

Fast-forward just two days and the mayor could be found delivering remarks in front of Sharpton’s National Action Network press backdrop, complete with the “No Justice, No Peace” slogan. Are the two getting a little too cozy? Check out the outrageous video of MSNBC host Sharpton physically shoving Fox News reporter Leland Vittert away from Rawlings-Blake as he dared approach the mayor to ask a question.

What next from Sharpton? How about this: a call to bring America’s police departments under the jurisdiction of the Department of Justice. “We need the Justice Department to step in and take over policing in this country,” he told reporters this afternoon, adding that it would take fighting states’ rights to do so.

Hmm … nationalize the police or disarm them while emptying the prisons? So many great suggestions today.
