Maybe Touré is right that “jobs!” is a weak antipoverty plan; still, we wouldn’t mind seeing a few jobs created here and there by the Obama administration to test the theory.

In the meantime, even PolitiFact concedes that “among all workers — Americans who have either a full- or a part-time job — the [poverty] rate is 7.3 percent. In 2012, the U.S. Census Bureau found that only 2.9 percent of Americans between 18 and 64 who worked full-time, year-round in 2012 were in poverty.

So, can we give jobs a chance?
